ASIEQ stands for the Association of Self Insured Employers of Queensland. Members of the Association include some of Queensland's largest employers who have elected to provide their own Accident Insurance under a Self Insurance Licence, instead of insuring with Work Cover. The Queensland Workers Compensation and Rehabilitation Act permits the Regulatory Authority Q-Comp to issue Self Insurance Licences to large Employers that can demonstrate the ability to meet regulatory requirements.
The Association (initially known as QWCSIA i.e. Queensland Workers Compensation Self Insurance Association) was formed in 1998 following the granting of the first self-insurance licenses in Queensland. At that time there were 3 licensed self-insurers and a number of companies who had submitted license applications.
The Association changed its title in 2008 during the 10th Anniversary of Self Insurance in Queensland. Our members believe the current title better reflects our position that ASIEQ is an Employer Association and that Self Insurance has broader implications than just Worker's Compensation issues.
Today ASIEQ, an incorporated Association, has all 23 licensed Queensland self insurers' as members as well as another major employer and 15 Associate Members. Members cover 282 employers in Queensland who collectively employ more than 176,000 Queenslanders. These organisations are some of the largest organisations in the State.
ASIEQ now accepts full membership from Employers who
employ more than 1000 Queensland workers and have also extended the Associate
membership to include providers working in the field of Medical Health, Safety
or Injury Management.
Our constitutional objectives are focused towards
the promotion of Employer Based Injury
Management as it is believed that better outcomes will be achieved through
employers implementing more structured approaches to injury management at the
workplace.
It is believed that employers with more than 1000
workers can support a structured self management approach to injury management
that is linked to health and safety systems
The Association continues to work with other
willing stakeholders to provide options and models for employers that will
assist in obtaining better outcomes.
The objects of the association are -
- lobby Government to influence policy direction to enable better outcomes through self-insurance and injury management tailored to strategic objectives;
- educate Government that:
- employer based injury management leads to better outcomes for employees;
- self-insurance is more holistic and not only about workers' compensation
- provide a forum for the discussion of matters relating to injury management in Queensland, especially in relation to self-insurance matters;
- allow the members to be represented in discussions with government departments and any other relevant body on matters relating to the above objects that affect the members in Queensland; and relevant associated matters.
- make submissions and representations on matters relating to self-insurance and/or employer based injury management, workers' compensation and related matters to government departments, any other relevant body and any Government inquiry into workers' compensation arrangements in Queensland; and relevant associated matters.

- arrange education for members and their staff in respect of self-insurance and injury management; and relevant associated matters.
